Albrighton Moat Project
At Shepwell we are fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer at the Albrighton Moat Project. We have been volunteering now for four years and lots of pupils have benefitted from the experience over that time, supported by Mr Rudd. At the present time, pupils from the year 7 and 8 PfA (Preparation for Adulthood) groups are attending on a rotational basis, along with two pupils from year 11 who attend regularly to support their wellbeing.
Volunteering consists of helping to keep the site maintained, such as leaf collecting during the autumn and winter months, weeding, soil sifting, grass cutting, planting and tidying. Pupils particularly enjoy using the leaf blowers!
Over the years we have seen the confidence of our pupils really grow and social skills improve as they will come into contact with the general public and other volunteers when at the project. Pupils who really enjoy volunteering at Albrighton always like to come back, which we try to accommodate as much as possible. Two pupils in particular really enjoy going and have attended regularly for three years, in all weather conditions!
Last year the Albrighton Moat Project achieved the Kings Award for Volunteering and the lucky pupils who attended at that time all received a special pin badge to show their achievement. As a school we are very privileged to have this opportunity.
