A message from Mrs Lisa Southall Headteacher

I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher here at Shepwell School. Throughout my lengthy time in education, working with the young people and staff at Shepwell School has been by far the most rewarding and fulfilling of my career. Our pupils have overcome challenges and may still face some but they are determined, hard-working and focussed, and they are willing to accept help and support to enable their individual personal achievements. Staff are dedicated and fully invested in each young person to support both academically and also in relation to developing emotional resilience and enhancing their social skills. As Headteacher, I endeavour to do all I can to ensure every young person at Shepwell School has a positive and rewarding time with us and is empowered to move on to be successful and confident in their journey after their time with us. I guarantee my team will all work tirelessly to ensure each pupil’s individual needs are met and all pupils feel proud of everything they achieve whilst at school. Shepwell School is truly a great place to be.

Here is a poem I have written about my personal journey which I would like to share with you:

I've lived a life of ups and downs

Of struggles and anxiety

But what I thought was mental health

Turned out to be ADHD

It makes a lot of sense now

As I sit and I reflect

On my self doubt, not being enough

And knowing its me you'll reject

I know I am a little weird

I know I talk a lot

I may forget to message you

But nasty I am not

My own brain is not my friend

It tells me stuff that's mean

I like to practice kindness

But this to myself I'm less keen

It's taken 52 whole years

To realise that my brain

Is wired slightly differently

And I'm not a dreadful strain

I've always thought that I'm hard work

Not as worthy as the rest

But those of you who have stayed around

You really are the best

After my daughter's diagnosis

Everything was clear

The neurodiversity that we share

Is actually quite dear

So now my busy brain

I am understanding how

You have helped me to become

The person I am now!!!
