School Counsellor
Our School Counsellor.
The school councillor (Kerry) spends three hours per week with pupils, offering a supportive and confidential space where they can discuss a range of personal, social, and academic challenges. During these sessions, she helps pupils develop coping strategies for stress, anxiety, and interpersonal conflicts, guiding them through difficult emotions or situations. Pupils often talk about their feelings, relationships with peers and teachers, and their mental wellbeing.
The counsellor also works with students to set goals, improve self-esteem, and build resilience. Whether it's resolving conflicts, navigating school pressures, or addressing issues at home, the counsellor provides both emotional support and practical tools to help pupils thrive in and outside of the classroom.
How do pupils access the counsellor?
There are a few ways in which pupils can access this support. Firstly, pastoral staff may ask for pupils to be added to the list. Secondly, parents or pupils themselves may ask to be added to the list. She can also see pupils who have been referred into WPH counselling and are also attending our school. This is where she will be directed to see them.
We also introduce Kerry to all new pupils when they start with us at Shepwell so they have the opportunity to speak to her if they so wish. Many pupils have stated that being able to talk to somebody neutral has helped them in many different ways.
